Get On Board the Maker Train: Plan Your Makerspace-In-A-Box

Monday, December 9, 2019 ⬥ 1:00 – 2:00 PM
Presented by Stephanie Bass and Ruth Okoye

Session Description:

Makerspace activities are a great way to promote a growth mindset in your students. Using the right challenges and everyday items, teachers can create a low-cost, pop-up makerspace-in-a-box for their classroom. Drop by to check out our makerspace-in-a-box, try out a few activities, and discuss management ideas and ways to tie activities to curricular objectives.

Purpose:

Our goal with this “drop-in” session is to offer support to teachers experiencing difficulty with adding “making” to lessons as appropriate. Using makerspace principles, teachers can create learning opportunities that challenge students to use a design process and/or computational thinking to solve problems. Participants will receive tips on dealing with cost, standards, and assessment – issues that are often cited as stumbling blocks when discussing the ideas of makerspaces with teachers.
