Some minor preparation to the interactive Excel spreadsheet will be necessary before implementing the lesson:

1. Decide on a relevant survey topic to use for data collection. Possible ideas include favorite pets, foods, places to go on vacation, television shows, etc.

2. Enter the survey topic where indicated on the first worksheet (Bar Graph).

3. Add titles for the X and Y axis of the graphs where indicated on the Bar Graph and Bar Graph Questions worksheets.

4. Add Pie Graph titles where indicated on the Make a Pie and Find the Info worksheets.

5. Add interpretive questions where indicated on the Bar Graph Questions worksheet. For example: “How many students like __________best?” or “Which ______ received the highest (or lowest) number of votes?” or “How many votes did _________ receive?”
