StoryTubes - StoryTubes Grades 1 to 6

Win $1000 for your school’s library by submitting a two-minute book review to StoryTubes—it’s that easy! Of course, you must also win the highest number of votes to garner that reward. Click on the numerous videos to see examples of creative book reviews. Get directions for creating your own StoryTube at the How to Do It link. Video making software is required to make and upload the videos to YouTube or TeacherTube (explained here). You must have a url from one of these sites when submitting your application. While the contest’s deadline is in the spring, knowing about this site in advance gives you time to make that winning video.

In the Classroom:
Use this site as an educational literacy tool. When you ask your students to write book reviews, show a few videos of familiar books for examples. You may opt to hold a school-wide competition similar to StoryTubes. Or, you may opt to film your own students’ book reviews and let the classroom across the hall be the “judge.” Beware that some schools may block YouTube videos. Request that the tech folks permit you to use TeacherTube for this contest. You may need to SHOW your administrator why it is worth it.
