Rich Chart Live is an online chart creator that instantly creates Flash charts (and other formats) that can be easily shared. Choose a template from the many options. Begin adding data, style choices, color options, and layout. An animation option is available to apply to the chart's axes and elements and can be customized with speed options. When finished, click Publish. Charts can be opened in a new page, saved to a PowerPoint, or embedded into a blog via copy and paste. You can also "drag and drop" the link to the char onto your desktop (and thus get its url). Opening the link in "free mode" asks for an email address first, but even abc@123.com works.

Wolfram Tones is a different and dynamic approach to thinking about music. Instantly create music and download it to your computer. Choose tone style, select a variation, and adjust the tone by using the generator, instrumentation, pitch mapping, or time controls. Save your "tone" to your collection or email it to friends. Your collection is associated to the computer where you make it using web browser cookies so no registration is necessary. Tones are packaged as midi files. Mathematical rules create these complex forms of music on Wolfram Tones. The program takes the mathematical pattern and turns it onto its side to produce a musical score. Here, the height of the pattern is the pitch of the note. More than just a musical resource, this website allows you to see and hear math. This site requires Real Player.

In math class, have students choose and analyze a musical pattern as part of a unit on algorithms. Have them change the parameters using the program controls to produce a sound that they like. Then have them relate the changes they hear to the changes in the math. In music class, have students create their own portfolio of music using Wolfram Tones. Encourage students to replicate their tones with their own musical instruments. Your talented math/music students and gifted students will love this site! LearnZillion is a video platform that combines video lessons, assessments, and progress reporting. Lessons highlight Common Core Standards in Math for grades 3 - 9. Each lesson is given in a video format, generally about 5 minutes per lesson. The lesson ends with a practice video. You are also presented with practice problems, and the answers are demonstrated and discussed. Teachers can sign up for a free account offering many special features of the site. Create customized playlists for students by dragging and dropping videos onto your playlist. Many lessons have a behind the scenes commentary just for teachers to watch before teaching a lesson to explain the rationale behind what is included. Featured materials can be downloaded for use in class. Short quizzes at the end of each lesson are scored and updated in student profiles, providing you with quick assessment information. Create individualized playlists for students to customize and differentiate instruction. Find lessons by using the Explore link on the site, choosing a general topic, then a more specific category. Zoo Whiz is an education site that encourages kids to be "whizzes" in math, reading, and word development. There are levels and content for students from 5 to 15 years old. There are over 11,200 interactive activities to help unleash the whiz in every student. Once sign-up (free) is complete, you are guided to provide the age range (5-6 is the youngest). This tailors activities to the individual child (great for differentiation). As students master the skill, more difficult activities are presented. Parents and teachers can easily view progress. The activities go beyond simple drill and skill to build higher order thinking skills and problem solving strategies. As students play games, they earn Zoo Whiz "money" that will allow them to purchase animals to build up their zoo. It is necessary to create an account on the site. Teachers can set up a class account with individual accounts for each student. Students can use the same account on home computers. Premium accounts are available with additional activities; however, there are many items available on the free portion of the site.

Use kids' love of games to inspire problem solvers and thinkers within each of your students. This ever-changing site allows for a wide variety of topics and interests. Use as a center tool, reward time, reinforcement, introduction, or review of a variety of skills and concepts. Many of the games are well suited for ELL students to simply practice reading directions and using vocabulary. Add as a link to your website to provide interesting new ideas and concepts. Inspire thinkers in your gifted or advanced classes. Use in computer classes to provide examples for game types. Use as examples of review tools at the end of any unit so students can create their own review games to challenge each other. Put the daily challenge up on your interactive whiteboard or projector as students are entering the room. Preservice teachers will find this site invaluable.

Find a plethora of secondary math resources: Smart Board lessons and activities, SAT review, Flashcards, and even graph paper. Many of the activities at this site were created to support various chapters of Algebra Two textbooks. Don't miss the amazing library of Mathematical Notebook Galleries containing images, pages, and even a few Flash animations. The site is easy to explore by choosing from categories on the left-hand side of the home page. Although some activities were designed for "Smart Board," most can be used on any type of interactive whiteboard. There are also downloadable Geometer's Sketchpad files, ready to go if you have that software.

Discover irreverent, creative new projects featured every week in Evil Mad Scientist blog. This blog features applied science and math concepts in unique or unusual ways. A few of them push the envelope, but all will get you thinking. Every Wednesday, new projects tickle your imagination. Watch videos, read the latest stories, or comment on existing projects. Browse the shop,-- not to buy, but to see and analyze remarkable inventions. Join a mailing list to never miss new projects. Note: a few of the ideas involve hacking electronics and computers, so the site may be blocked by school filters. Preview to know for sure. See notes below on ways to share specific articles.

Inspire creativity and original thinking with Evil Mad Scientist. Use as inspiration or examples for student projects in art, science, or music, research, or applied creativity. If you share a link with students, you may want to link to a specific post or use Readability (reviewed here) to provide a "clean view" of the post. Evaluate projects together on the IWB to help students identify characteristics of creativity and talk about how the ideas may have come to be. Use this site during a unit on scientific method so students connect the discipline of research with the creative results. What kind of experimenting took place? What principles of science? Compare the inventions available in the Shop with inventions from the Industrial Revolution. How is today a different environment for inventors (or is it?) Begin your own Evil Mad Scientist blog to feature your students' creativity or slightly irreverent ideas in a safe and school-appropriate environment, almost as an STEM graffiti wall.

Use these topics as an introduction to a unit of study or as a ready link for students to access for homework help. Introduce this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use the animations to visually see the solution to a math problem. Provide time for students to view the solution to a problem and write the steps in their own words. Give practice problems to groups to use their directions in the solution of the problems. If you are gearing up for high stakes tests that require students to write about how they solve math problems, you can use this site for the entire class to practice writing to explain solutions. Be sure to place this link on your website and classroom computer for easy access.

Springo is a portal designed for preschool and elementary students to surf for age appropriate websites and information. Click if you are under 8 or over 8, and a list of links appears. Choose if you are a boy or girl to find activities geared more towards gender stereotypes (car activities for boys, princess games for girls, etc.). Note that the actual content is NOT part of Springo. All links on this site are approved by Springo staff; however. Picture icons help you find information like homework help, sports websites, online research resources, art activities, educational interactives, and (of course) games. Sample topics in the Under 8 section include: Educational Games, Coloring Pages, Learning, Characters, Sports, Hobbies, Games for Girls, and many more. If you are over 8, some of the sample activities include: Reference, Science, Math, Learning, Making Friends (warning: some of these sites involve social networking), Hobbies, and more!
