Other online calculators don't add up to the diverse collection of calculators Calkoo has to offer. Browse categories including measurement, wage, taxes, stock analysis, mathematics, loans, health, saving, investing, real estate, and more! Calkoo can handle many tasks, including some rather complex calculations. Complete the various fields based on the type of calculation. Some utilize radio buttons and drop down boxes, while others ask for numbers only. Create almost any kind of calculation you need with this easy accessible calculating tool. Language options include English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian.

In the Classroom

Calkoo is a great free tool to replace expensive graphing calculators that many students may not have. Calkoo works well on computers, mobile devices, and interactive whiteboards. Use this site during a unit on careers, economics, or financial literacy. Include it as part of a measurement unit. Share during Family and Consumer Science units to explore the cost of living and have students put together a mythical "budget" for living in their chosen career. Have students send you on a vacation and include calculations for the currency converter, fuel cost calculator, sales tax for souvenirs, and more! This is a great site to support many experiments in science. Calculate acceleration, velocity, and time, or use the mathematics category to complete problems. Use this tool in social studies class for quickly calculating years or months from important timelines or when figuring out geographical distances. In English or L.A. classes, quickly figure out the life span of authors or how long ago a story took place. In health or science classes, use the BMI calculator or get other accurate measurements. Visit Calkoo and select a calculator to meet your needs! Include this site on your class web page for students and parents to access as a reference. The various languages make this tool very useful for ESL/ELL students.

FastFig is a predictive math computation website. It solves problems as you type, allowing free flow of ideas instead of focusing on the process of math. Create an account using email, Google, or Facebook. Choose between a blank page or different types of problems such as word problems, algebra, or statistics. Use the search bar to locate options for use such as functions, mode, averages, and much more. Click on the "i" next to each term to view examples and explanations for use. Be sure to view the tutorials for a full overview of capabilities of the site.

Use FastFig to demonstrate solving problems and correct syntax on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use this site for some "backward" teaching. Type in a problem and allow FastFig to solve it. Challenge students to explore the steps required to solve the problem. Share this site with students as a resource for checking homework answers. (It doesn't get them off the hook for providing explanations and step-by-step procedures for solving problems.)

Comments

Hello Amy, Thanks for signing up and trying out FastFig. We've worked out the issues with FireFox, and i apologize for any inconvenience. Please check us out again! We'd love to work with you and tailor the product to better fit the needs of younger students. (On our page navigate to 'More' then to 'Contact' and e-mail us from there) Sincerely, Jay - from the FastFig Team Jay, , Grades: 0 - 12
Was disappointed that it didn't work in Firefox, but once I logged into Internet explorer it was fine. I teach younger students and it's not as useful as it would be for high school students. Amy, NJ, Grades: 1 - 6

Magical Maths is a blog dedicated to exploring and sharing math concepts and teaching ideas from around the world. Some example topics include how to teach anyone to multiply any two digit numbers in 11 seconds and the top 10 biggest brain damaging habits. The blog is written in the United Kingdom so references to their curriculum and "key stage" divisions are included. However, the material is appropriate to anyone teaching math. Search the site using keywords to find posts on particular subjects. Choose from specific categories listed on the side of the page. One very useful category is the lesson starters with ideas for beginning a math lesson. Subscribe to the blog to receive updates via RSS feed. Some of the videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable. You could always view the videos at home and bring them to class "on a stick" to share. Use a tool such as KeepVid reviewed here to download the videos from YouTube.
This site includes advertising.
