Share information learned with other members of the class to get a great background on the life and works of Einstein. Use to understand the theories he developed and discuss the difference between laws and theories. Have students (or groups) explore a specific part of this site and write a blog post about what they learn. If you are beginning the process of integrating technology, have students create blogs sharing their learning and understanding using Tumblr, reviewed here. Squishy Circuits takes the fear out of electrical engineering and replaces it with fun! Using two different home-made play dough recipes, this scientist devised a way to teach her toddler about electronics. Turning her kitchen into an electrical engineering lab was easier than you may think. Two different play dough recipes provide conductors and resistors. Demonstrate how electricity moves by attaching the play dough to a battery pack and using LED lights. All ages will love "playing" with electronics. Watch the short video explanation of how this project started, and see a great demonstration by the creator of the project. Directions are available video video or as a PDF.

In the Classroom
Budgets are tight and times are tough, but using these activities, we can still keep the lights on electrical engineering. Have students make the play dough in lab or make it in advance for them. Color the recipes with different food colors so that you can easily identify which recipe is which. Explain how the battery packs and indicator lights work, and then let them play with the play dough and the battery packs. Please advise students of safety hazards and caution them against putting sensors directly against the battery pack. Once they have had time to play, have them identify different circuit parts using correct electrical terminology. Challenge students to create more and use their imaginations to try different situations and scenarios. Have different groups share their findings with the class, and allow the groups to share ideas to reach even further.

It graphs equations as you write them, is color-coded, and instantly revises and redraws the equations as you update them. Share any graph with a Bit.ly (shortened) link. Note that the calculator does NOT use Flash so it works on iPads and iTouches. Easily manage your graphs in a folder and browse examples. Desmos just released the news that they now have a free iPad app for their graphing calculator!

Jefferson Lab is a tremendous resource for science. It has loads of resources for classroom use, divided by the type of activity. Hands-on activities include the lab's BEAM program for 6th-8th grade. There are descriptions of each activity along with a PDF of the lesson, handouts, and worksheets. Most activities also offer an online version. Worksheets, puzzles, and other interactives include items such as vocabulary lists, word searches, and crossword puzzles. Each activity includes a short description and explanation of how to play. Many activities have links to other, similar games. Another portion of the site has videos of science experiments such as shattering pennies and flying rings. Videos are generally under 5 minutes and would work well in most classroom settings. You can subscribe to the lab's YouTube channel and be notified when there are new videos to view.

Show videos from the site as an introduction to new units such as studying static electricity. Share this site with students and allow them to explore online activities on their own. BUild excitement for STEM related careers by having students explore and report their favorite discoveries. Have students complete an online activity then create a talking avatar using a photo or other image (legally permitted to be reproduced). Their avatars can explain science concepts demonstrated in the activity. Use a site such as Blabberize, reviewed here, for talking avatars.

Nobelprize.org is the official website of the Nobel Prize. Here you find information about Alfred Nobel, the prizewinners, interviews, and photos. Videos of interviews of Nobel peace prizewinners, speeches, ceremonies, interviews, banquets, lectures, announcements, award ceremonies, and documentaries fill the gamut of all of the prizewinners. The Nobel prizes awards are in literature, chemistry, medicine, peace, economics, and physics. Under the Education tab at the top find arieties of educational games/activities and lesson plans help explain many of the Nobel Award winners' work. This site clearly explains and illustrates the purpose of the awards, the award winners, and their ideas. Videos give an insider look at each of the winners.

Share the videos and activities on your projector or interactive whiteboard. Try using this website as a resource in art class to have students find a picture and recreate it though their own interpretation. Have students in a language arts class choose a photograph and create a story about how it came to be as a creative writing exercise. Have students in science class use it as a research resource for adding great images to their presentations. Once inside the "member only" Jason site, simply click on the Curricula tab on the left side to see all current and past missions still available on the site. This could turn into your next "go-to" resource for online interactive science in the classroom. This is a MUST-SEE site with a ton of high interest topics for students. It is definitely worth the 1-2 minute FREE registration. Looking for some examples of topics? There are lessons/activities about Mysteries of Earth & Mars, Humpback whales, Monster Storms, Rainforests, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Great Lakes, Measurement, Forces, Velocity, and many, many more. It appears that they update this site frequently, so check back often.

In the Classroom
With the array of information, lesson plans, and modules for learning this website can be used in so many different ways! If you are searching for a video clip that is relevant to your current topic, perform a search of their digital library. Looking for an entire lesson plan or a single assignment? Click on the Teacher Tools bar to quickly find something suitable. Share the video clip on your interactive whiteboard. If several topics relate to your current subject matter, challenge cooperative learning groups to investigate different portions of this site. (This would only work with older/more independent students.) Then have student create projects to share with the class and "teach" about their topic. Next under Solutions is CurrikiGo, where you will publish your lessons, etc. Last on the dropdown list is the CurrikiLibrary, where you can search by subject area, grade level, or resource type (interactive, video, or podcast). For a thorough summary of Curriki click the Explore a CurrikiStudio Activity. Join different groups for a more involved way to explore new areas in online learning, subject area interests, or focus questions. Create collections of your resources to keep private or share with others. This site focuses on providing free access to teachers, schools, students, or parents to many new creative ideas for in-class learning, digital learning, and hybrid or blended learning in a global community. Sqworl is a site for combining multiple links into one single link. Registration is required; however, it is very easy. You create a username and password, add your email and it is done. After registering, a personal homepage is created, this is where the magic can begin! The homepage is where groups will be created to combine URLs. Then adding some groups of links begins the process of creating groups. At this point a title is given to the group being created (examples might be Math sites, American History, etc.). The final step is to add a short description. After choosing start, simply copy and paste the url you want to use and add a short description and click finish. Once a group is created, it can be shared through the url shown on the page. Sqworl also has a bookmarklet that can be added to the browser toolbar making it easier to add items to your groups without having to open the homepage. There is also a mobile app for iPhone.

In the Classroom
In the classroom use this site to combine url's of online class projects into one group. Create a group of resources for students or parents for different subjects and share the url through your classroom website or newsletter. Create a group with videos relating to classroom content. Create a classroom account and let students add resources they have found to groups to share with others. Show students how to follow other groups on Sqworl and share resources by creating their own groups.
