A nifty collection of math and health games, and at the bottom of the site find a link for activities, printables, parents, videos, games, and teachers. The teacher link will take you to PBS Learning Media which has lesson plans and follow-up activities to reinforce the concepts featured in a particular game. Math strategies are cleverly disguised as sports challenges, invention making, puzzles, mazes etc. Math topics include patterns, deductive reasoning, budgeting, decimals, negative numbers, place value, elapsed time, measurement, operations, probability, geometry, and more. Start from this teacher page to select the game most appropriate for your students.

This website is extremely informative and provides students with details about everyday illnesses and injuries, emotional support, puberty, nutrition, and more! There is such a wealth of information available at this website, teachers can find numerous subjects, activities and information. Several kid-approved recipes are also provided. Be sure to check out the movies - they provide general science information and simple explanations of the many systems of the body (and are quite entertaining). FLASH is required for some of the activities.

This online game, specifically designed for blind or visually impaired children, was developed by PBS in consultation with the National Center for Accessible Media. It's a challenging memory activity that asks students to safely lead D.W. through a dark room to get a glass of water without stepping on a toy and waking baby Kate. To accomplish this, students must listen carefully to verbal descriptions that reveal the exact placement of each toy. Make sure that students select the "audio" option before beginning the activity. Headphones required.

tag(s): disabilities (29), listening (68)

In the Classroom

This site is also useful for students as an activity that strengthens memory skills, concentration, and attention to detail. Include this game with others as part of your lessons about disabilities. As part of your overall unit on disabilities, ask students to use Book Creator, reviewed here to share ideas on how to adapt areas of your classroom and school for disabled students. Include student drawings, pictures, and writing projects in your ebook.
