This recording of an OK2Ask online professional learning session is from July 2023. You can register and immediately view the archive of the session.

Digital or online reading is different from reading print. Digital reading often includes a research component that isn't linear, so when reading online, students need to clarify their purpose and then evaluate and synthesize information. Come learn about the processes involved in digital reading and explore three tools that will help you teach critical strategies to your students. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Understand skills and processes involved in digital reading; 2. Explore tools that help students find, evaluate, and synthesize what they read; and 3. Plan for digital reading instruction in the classroom. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

GPTZero detects whether a text is generated by an artificial intelligence (AI) product such as ChatGPT. After entering text or uploading a file, GPTZero determines the probability that the document is AI-generated using information applied across several models, including ChatGPT, Bard, and human or human and AI-created works. Visit this site's FAQ section to find suggestions for educators on how to work with students when finding AI-generated text and ideas for reducing the risk of AI abuse by students.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (99), plagiarism (31), writing (315)

In the Classroom

Bookmark and save this site when checking students' written assignments and as a resource for learning about AI-generated text with students. Ask students to include a copy of a response from GPTZero when submitting written assignments to demonstrate that the response is determined to be written by a human, not a chat tool. If your school or district doesn't have a policy regarding using AI generators, work with your students to create a classroom policy of proper use. For example, share how students can use AI generators to clarify information misunderstandings or learn more about a topic before beginning a writing project. Consider using a screen recorder like Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here to create a video sharing examples and ideas on using chat tools and verifying human-created work using GPTZero.

Free accounts offer up to a twenty-five-student class size, five questions per PowerPoint, three draggable objects, three saved classes, and basic gamification. ClassPoint is not available for MacOS devices at the time of this review; however, it is being looked at as an option, so Mac users might want to check back to see if it becomes available.

Insert polls within your slides to gauge students' understanding of the content or ask them to respond to questions throughout the presentation. Engage and motivate your learners to create podcasts. Students can create podcasts to share with their peers and demonstrate content mastery. Podcasts are the perfect alternative for students who may have difficulty putting the word on paper, as they can share their information orally. In addition, students can record podcasts anytime a device is available, making this an ideal activity for multiple instructional scenarios, including in-person, remote, blended, and small group projects. In this collection, we share valuable tools for students to create educational podcasts.
