gotLearning is a platform for students and teachers to discuss and share student learning and educational goals. Upload documents, add videos, or scan items to begin the collaborative process. Documents open up inside a learning conversation that offers several options for creating ongoing discussions and feedback between teachers and students. Students use the app to scan and upload work to the platform. Use the educator dashboard to share and monitor assignments and to differentiate work that fits the needs of students easily. The free option for the school year 2022-2023 includes adding up to eight classes and 150 students within an account and integrates easily with Google Classroom.

Use gotLearning to focus on student learning using formative feedback and collaboration based on students' work. One advantage of using this site is that it helps students to organize and share work through one tool instead of trying to manage it within notebooks or folders. Include other support staff, such as counselors, special education instructors, and ENL/ELL teachers, as part of your learning conversations to provide a holistic approach to student learning. Share student growth documented on gotLearning with parents during conferences to help support upcoming learning goals.

Math Games offers a variety of unique games to practice math concepts using problem-solving and logic. These are not your ordinary skill and drill games, but they involve challenging players to explore how to manipulate numbers in new ways. For example, the game of Miniaturization asks players to reduce the size of cargo items to fit more units into a shipping container efficiently. Other games involve addition and number puzzle activities.

This site has quite a few advertisements; before sharing with students, demonstrate how to avoid the ads when playing games. Include games from this site as part of a math center or problem-solving homework activity. Ask students to discuss and share their problem-solving strategies after playing. Extend math learning by asking students to create a weekly or monthly math podcast using Buzzsprout, reviewed here. Use this podcast for students to compare and contrast strategies for solving the different games and share their understanding of the math concepts featured in the games.

Once downloaded and installed, add a password to protect any folder in three clicks. Begin by selecting the file to download to your device and following the installation and setup directions. Once installed, select any folder and add a password; protected folders turn red and then display a lock icon to indicate they are locked. To open a protected folder, click open as usual and enter the password. Use different passwords for each folder, or select the "One password for all folders" option to lock multiple folders with one password.

When rolling dice, are you lucky, or are probability and statistics coming into play? This dice game allows players to explore different outcomes when increasing or decreasing the number of dice rolls. First, select the number of rolls to begin, then choose the link to roll two dice. Chances displays a graph showing the resulting outcome and a list of all the different combinations rolled.

Use Chances as an engaging way to introduce students to probability and statistics. Ask them to predict outcomes when completing a small number of dice rolls vs. a larger number. Enhance learning by asking students to conduct their exploration using real dice or virtual dice found at Virtual Manipulatives, reviewed here. Use different amounts of dice as part of the exploration to see how the number of dice affects the different possible outcomes. Graph results using Data Gif Maker, reviewed here, then share the different GIFs created by students or groups. As an extended learning activity, use Sway, reviewed here, to create an interactive lesson that provides a broad range of learning opportunities for students to explore probability and statistics. Options to include are videos, games, and simulations such as those found at PhET, reviewed here.

Add Straw.Page to your list of website creation tools to offer for students to use for many different projects. For example, ask students to share poems, lab reports, or quick journal entries and add an image or links to additional information. If students are creating pages, check with your district's policy on publishing student work. Create pages to share information with parents about upcoming events and important dates or a list of links for resources to use at home.

Google Read Along is an entertaining, interactive website designed to help young children learn to read. This site is currently available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, and Urdu. Though you can use Google Read Along on your computer, the best experience will be by using an Android device. Read Along engages young readers with a friendly character named Diya, who provides assistance and feedback when needed. Students receive immediate feedback by earning stars for each word they read correctly. In addition, Diya will help if children are stuck on a particular word. Gamification makes learning to read fun and engaging! Students earn stars and badges and can level up to more advanced books as they become increasingly better readers. Google Read Along also tracks how many minutes students spend actively reading. A Google account is required, and enable your microphone access for your browser.

In the Classroom

Google Read Along would be a great addition to any preschool or early elementary classroom. Teachers who work with ENL students or adults learning to read may also find this site helpful. Students will gain confidence by practicing reading independently yet still get assistance if needed, all while the teacher can work with individual students or small groups. In addition, many books are cross-curricular, so they can be used to enhance instruction for other core subjects.

Comments

This is a great resource to help my Spanish 1 and Heritage students to learn how to read. Jessica Zapata, , Grades: 9 - 12
