Use this tool easily in your Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or blended classroom since all students will be able to access it for free, no matter what device they have, using the internet and their is no downloading apps. Intergalactic Mobile Learning Center is a set of six mobile apps for use in elementary and middle school collaborative learning situations. The apps include a spreadsheet, word processor, KWL tool, PDF, Flipbook, and a mind mapping tool. Two or more students work together using their own devices to collaborate on any project either face to face or from a distance. In addition to the apps, the site also offers a few starter activities, called Roadmaps for download. Apps use Google logins and work best in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers. Add tags to any item to unify and organize information. Upcoming features include images, calendars, and maps. Be sure to go into Beyondpad's Demo Mode for hands-on practice with all of the site's features. Beyondpad also includes apps for Chrome, Windows, and Firefox. The Demo Mode will not save your work unless you sign in with email and password or one of several social media accounts. Create a class account to organize information into one easy to access place. Spell out the use of the site and what is allowed and not allowed -- and the penalties. Even though all students have the same login, create different notebooks for different tasks that students can use to upload information to be shared by all. Create separate accounts for student groups who can then share their notebook with other groups. Use tags to easily find and identify specific information. Create checklists of steps in a project. Place all notes in one place, so you do not forget. Use this tool easily in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom since all students will be able to access it for free, no matter what device they have. Share a video with students once a week to help all of you learn about the chemistry in our everyday lives. Flip your classroom and use a video as homework. Have students take notes on the material and write down questions they still have and topics that confuse them. They can do this with pen and paper or online. If you want the assignment online, explain to students they need to open a new tab in their browser window and take notes with a tool such as Webnote, reviewed here; tell students to be sure to save the URL to share their notes and questions with you and their peers. Or, use a tool like playposit (formerly eduCanon), reviewed here, for students to pause videos and ask or answer questions right on the video. Dig a little deeper by selecting a Learning Lens, found at the bottom of any article under Teaching Resources, to focus on specific information within the article such as conclusions or connections to standards highlighted by different colors. Also, this site offers Thought Questions for each article allowing readers to extend thinking beyond the information provided. Some selections include videos. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

In the Classroom
Science in the Classroom is a must-add to any high school classroom. View articles together on your interactive whiteboard as you add highlighted annotations to focus on the content. Alternatively, print a copy of the article and have students add highlights to compare to the site's highlighted portions. Be sure to help weaker readers and ESL/ELL students by sharing the vocabulary words before reading, either on a handout or by projecting on an interactive whiteboard or screen and highlighting them in the text as you come to them. Flip learning by having students read an article before coming to class, ask them to prepare questions they have for when they return to class. Have students create a simple infographic sharing their findings using Venngage, reviewed here. Use OpenStax textbooks to dig deeper into core subjects such as math, science, and social studies. Use materials to differentiate instruction based on student abilities and interests. If your current textbooks are older, find newer books on OpenStax and adopt them for your curriculum. Take advantage of the search feature of online books to find supplemental material for your current instruction. Find teaching materials for gifted students using OpenStax textbooks.

Explore the many different kinds of geology available for viewing at the United States National Parks with this online tour. Choose from various categories to find links to parks with that geologic theme. Some also include a short description of geologic features. Although this site looks quite simple, there is an abundance of information available for learning about geographic features around the United States.
