This is a personal Paulsen site sponsored by Random House Publishing. The site includes the following categories: Iditarod Journal, About Gary, Ask Gary, New Adventures, Library, and Teachers Info. Clicking on any of the links gives you cool info about the author or by the author.This is a great site because it shows his signature, has a biography, and includes pictures that show the author with his boat. It includes "10 Survival Tips," which can be a useful take-off when doing the Brian novels. It includes an address to write to the author (in care of his publishing house)and novel book guides for teachers for The Tucket Adventures, the Brian Novels, and the Beet Fields. You can also get on an electronic mailing list for updated information on the author and his novels.

Hatchet: Teacher Cyber Guide Grades 6 to 8 SCORE

Here’s something for everyone. Score offers another interdisciplinary set of lessons students will enjoy. This Cyber Guide’s activities range from the physics of flight, creating an ‘orienteering’ map, researching Canadian wildlife, to writing a survival guide. Teachers will find this unit easy to use with the 6th Grade California Content Standards and the rubics for assessment and grading.

Learning Ideas for The River Grades 5 to 7 Library of Congress

Be a cartographer for Brian Robeson and the journey that he makes in Paulsen's The River. The Library of Congress invites students to research the extensive map collection online and use an Artifact Analysis Matrix to decide the map’s worth to travelers. Students finish their study by reading Gary Paulsen’s book and writing a poem about the story’s journey. Rubrics are included to help students remember the necessary criteria for the culminating project
