Providing meaningful feedback to students is key to helping them understand where they are in the learning process and providing guidance for the future. This AI-generation tool analyzes student work using your input on grade level, subject, title, and assignment description to provide specific feedback on the content. Feedback includes information on the student's ability to address the topic, how their writing supports the objectives, and specific ideas for enhancing and improving the content.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (216), assessment (134), feedback (11), writing (308)

In the Classroom

Use this tool to gather quick feedback for student writing activities and share it with students as part of their editing and revision process. Share a link to this tool on your class website or newsletter for students to use as a helpful tool to improve their writing before submitting their final draft. Use the feedback provided to guide your writing instruction; for example, if many students need to improve their work by adding specific examples, use this information to develop additional lessons to teach this skill. Use Google Docs or Microsoft Word for students to track and share writing revisions. For example, ask students to begin writing projects in Google Docs. After sharing their work, use Student Feedback to analyze the work based on your criteria, then share the feedback portion with the student. Ask the student to highlight areas that need improvement, then use that information as a starting point to revise the text below the original text. When finished, ask the student to write a short reflective piece on methods to improve their writing. This method lets you view each writing process step as a reflective activity.

Enlighten AI is a free grading and feedback site that allows teachers to give specific, actionable, and timely feedback to their students. The data collected can also be used to drive instruction with summary reports. Enlighten AI will also create rubrics, or teachers can use their own rubrics. Rubrics created can be quick rubrics that just give the total points or more advanced ones. All rubrics can be edited, duplicated, and archived, as well as reusable past rubrics. Feedback to students can be given individually or in bulk via a PDF or email. For Enlighten AI to generate your teaching approach to feedback, teachers will have to provide feedback and responses in the first assignments created, and Enlighten AI will adapt to teachers' grading styles and feedback. Enlighten Al can support grading for Google Documents submitted via Google Classroom, and teachers can also send assignments via Enlighten AI by having students sign in via a code or link. Enlighten AI is available in Spanish. In the Free Teacher version, there is Google Classroom integration, adaptive AI grading, on demand AI feedback, access to the assignment library, and bulk CSV imports across classes.

ClassQuestion is an easy-to-use tool for getting feedback. Send questions and receive instant feedback with a plot of the results. Create a free account, then use the menu to locate how to create a new class. After making a class, follow the prompts to create a question by adding the number of answers and identifying the correct answer; choose none if conducting a poll or if only recording student participation. Save your question, then share it from your classroom folders. To respond, students create an account and access questions on their own devices using your classroom code. Your results are available in the Question Data section of the account dashboard.

In the Classroom

Use ClassQuestion to receive instant feedback for many different classroom purposes. For example, use this tool to create exit tickets to help determine students' understanding of content and guide further lessons. Use this tool as a debate and discussion starter by asking students to take a stance on a topic, then divide students into groups to develop their position further. Gamify learning by turning review sessions into opportunities for students or groups to earn points for correct responses. Input data collections from students to quickly create graphs; for example, create a poll of students' favorite foods and share the results with students.

Snorkl uses AI to generate personalized feedback on students' verbal explanations of assignments. After viewing a question, students create a recording with options for drawing on a virtual whiteboard to enhance their responses. After submitting a response, students receive feedback that identifies positive information in their responses and areas for improvement. Use questions from Snorkl's library or create questions to add to your library and assign to students. When assigning activities to your class, options are available to allow students to view their classmates' responses and comments if desired. Students access the assignments by visiting the link provided after creating the assignment or using the join code. As students post responses, teachers receive insights based on the shared answers that describe students' understandings and misunderstandings of the topic.

Short Answer is an online tool designed for K-12 classrooms to give students peer feedback. To use it, you need to create an account and set up a question or writing prompt for your students. You can also upload a file if needed. Choose feedback criteria various options, including more detailed or creative ones, or add your suggestions for feedback. Once you are done, save your question or launch the activity. Three activity options are available: All In, Pair It, Battle Royal, and Quick Write. In the All In option, all responses are visible and receive feedback. In Pair It, the whole class compares the same set of responses. In Battle Royal, students vote for the most robust response until only one remains. And in Quick Write, students write independently and reflect together. Additional settings are available for each activity to set the time allowed and options for text and images. Students join using the code created for each activity and are given code names to provide anonymity during the activity. Teachers see student names on their teacher screen and download responses. After receiving student responses, teachers can select entries to be included in the feedback activity based on the activity chosen.
