Here's a collection of outstanding books by Hispanic authors and/or about Hispanic themes for children and young people. Teachers and librarians may find this list helpful in selecting appropriate or attractive titles for their students. Click the title to see a description; some will have a classroom unit with reading levels and standards. Consider conducting a year-long independent reading challenge, asking students to read from this list and create their choice of media "advertisement" or critique of the book using one of the many tool options in the TeachersFirst Edge. Ask students to generate a personal goal "Lifetime Reading" or "Book Bucket List" and share it in their own creative way.

Besides the list of the yearly winners and the accompanying honor books, the site provides access to previous winners dating back to the 1920's. Information about the Newbery award is in the left sidebar along with links to other important children's book medals, including the Caldecott (for illustration and other art).

The themes are designed to promote reading and give educators resources that worked for this group. It promotes children's literature also. The site itself contains reading lists in French and English. The lists are centered around themes. There is also ways to share your success with the kit and pose questions in an open forum. They offer tips and suggestions on ways to encourage reading and learning among children and adolescents.

Share this website with parents as a resource to maintain learning over the summer break. Subscribe to the weekly text messages and pass them on to parents and guardians of your students. Use the toolkits found on this site to conduct mini science or reading camps over the summer.
