This study has helpful information for educators and other professionals concerned with the quality of internet accessibility in out public schools. The study examines the educational and societal implications of placing internet filtering software on school computers. The study is specifically aimed at determining whether such software actually impedes the pursuit of curriculum goals by inappropriately blocking educational resources. The study's use of state mandated curriculum standards as a basis for internet searches places the study in a context that continues the current dialogue over the most effective way to filter internet use in schools.

Intel's tour of the inside of your computer has reappeared in the Web world. Use it for an interactive, highly visual look at what goes on inside the typical computer. There are 35 interactive lessons and six sections: Introduction to Computers, Circuits, and Switches, Digital Information, Microprocessors, The Internet, and Technology and Society. Detailed instructional strategies written for the teacher extend the lessons and key concepts in the classroom.

This one can be a useful introduction for both students and teachers. After familiarizing the students with the site using a projector or interactive whiteboard, set a link up on classroom computers for individual or pair exploration or on your website for blended or flipped learning classrooms. Most information for each product includes suggestions for getting started and move through more advanced skills. Many tutorials include images and text descriptions. Bookmark this site on your computer and classrooms computers to find suggestions on how to use specific portions of Microsoft Office 10 software. Use your interactive whiteboard to share topics with students. Include this site with your bookmarks for computer tutorials using a bookmarking tool like Papaly, reviewed here. Papaly allows you to share and collaborate on curated bookmarks and also add comments. Encourage students to include comments (example: use this site to find great information on new features of Excel) when sharing resources using Papaly to make finding information easier for everyone. Ask students to enhance their learning and create infographics featuring tutorials of commonly used programs in your classroom. Learn to code through drag and drop features with Snap! In addition to the drag and drop technology, Snap! allows users to write scripts to control features of the program. For those familiar with Scratch, reviewed here, Snap! includes features that take it beyond simple drag and drop to make it an excellent application for introducing coding to older students. In the Classroom

Share Snap! on an interactive whiteboard or with a projector to provide an overview of the features included then allow students to explore on their own. Save projects to your own computer or create an account to save on the site. Search YouTube for video tutorials on using this program and share with students as they build an understanding of how to use the site. Begin by creating a small project together, then allow students to work individually or in groups to create their design.
