Engage your middle and high school students with Working in Harmony. Discovery Ed and CMA have worked together to create this educational STEAM site. These standards-aligned activities demonstrate how diverse country music careers apply STEAM skills. With activities aligned to "This is STEAM Country Video Topic Series," students can hear how STEAM skills are used in the industry. Find a virtual tour and many activities and lesson plans. Though Working in Harmony features country music, the activities and lessons can be applied to various award shows and music genres.
In the Classroom
As the activities are completed, engage students further by using Padlet, reviewed here to explain how the concepts in each actiivty could be applied to their favorite music genre. Begin with a blank document or choose from the many templates offered and drag and drop elements from the options shared on the dashboard. Canva Docs also offers Magic Write, an artificial intelligence-driven tool that automatically generates content based on your provided prompt. Finally, change any Doc to a Deck (presentation) using the link to convert or use the share link to assign a document to Teams, Google Classroom, or add collaborators.

Turn your slides into interactive questions to share with students and receive immediate feedback through the responses. Use the rewards option to give or take away stars to students based on your preferences; students move through levels to receive badges by earning rewards. Download ClassPoint to your Windows device by following the directions and prompts provided. Free accounts offer up to a twenty-five-student class size, five questions per PowerPoint, three draggable objects, three saved classes, and basic gamification. ClassPoint is not available for MacOS devices at the time of this review; however, it is being looked at as an option, so Mac users might want to check back to see if it becomes available.

Use this site to offer your students STEM "degrees" in several ways. As a class, complete an activity weekly as an introduction and review of science content by including the video as part of a computer center activity. Work together to complete the quiz for each video, then request a certificate to recognize your class's accomplishment. Another option is for students to work toward achieving certifications on their own. Share this site on your class newsletter for students to complete over the summer as an exciting way to engage in science activities and earn a STEM degree. One benefit of having the option to choose from different grade levels is the ability to differentiate learning by offering various courses to students based on their interests and abilities. Some students may choose to earn several degrees in different grade levels. Support and encourage students to pursue STEM degrees by taking pictures of completed degrees and adding them to your class website. Extend learning by asking students to research one of the topics, then share a presentation with peers using Canva Edu, reviewed here. The background knowledge portion of the article shares some historical perspectives on the evolution of mathematics, beginning with a bone found in the Democratic Republic of Congo over 20,000 years ago. Next, scroll through the activities section to find math-related picture book suggestions and additional ideas for learning about mathematicians through biographies. The extension activity idea shares how to promote interest in math by creating brackets similar to those used with March Madness to determine the most influential mathematician of all time. Content on this site includes correlations to ISTE and AASL standards.

Bookmark this article to save as a resource for incorporating literature into math lessons and engaging students with learning about mathematicians by researching their lives and career paths. Encourage students to think about the many uses of math in their daily lives using FigJam, reviewed here. Create a Figjam slide and ask students to add a sticky note anytime they use math during the day. Extend this activity by adding a slide with columns and asking students to identify the type of math used during their day. For example, create columns that include geometry, measurement, data collection, and numbers. Use this information to create graphs and analyze students' different uses of math throughout the day. I believe that integration is a marvelous way to help students to better understand math concepts. I have employed the use of integrating Science in my Math classroom and it has enlightened the student's way of thinking. Achievery is a free digital learning platform, developed in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, that provides K-12 students with engaging video clips paired with standards-aligned lesson plans and activities across various subjects, including ELA, SEL, Math, Science, Digital Literacy, Social Studies, Arts, and STEM. To access the content, users must create an account. Teachers and parents can register, and parents have the option to set up sub-accounts for children under 13. Content is searchable and filterable by unit or lesson, grade band, subject, standard, or media type, including an "All Units" section. Most lessons are part of larger learning units but are also fully usable as standalone lessons. Each lesson includes downloadable PDFs, aligned standards (Common Core, CASEL, ISTE, NGSS), vocabulary lists, activity instructions, and linked videos. The platform is available in both English and Spanish. It is an excellent resource for classroom instruction or substitutes, with a sign-in required to access materials.

Although originally designed for remote learning, all lessons can be easily adapted for in-class instruction. Easily find activities to differentiate instruction for different student ability levels by browsing options below or above the student's current grade level. Many lessons include worksheets in PDF format. Turn these activities into a digital format by taking a screenshot of the document, then save as the background on Google Slides, reviewed here. Add text boxes in the appropriate place on the slide for students to add responses.
