Once started, fill in the provided blanks to add names and other information then view your completed poem. Take advantage of the poem generator to motivate student interest in poetry and offer the opportunity to explore different types of poetry. As students become more confident in creating their poetry, use a digital portfolio tool like educlipper, reviewed here, for students to compile and share their poetry. Transform classroom technology use by having students publish their poetry using Book Creator, reviewed here. In addition to sharing poems, ask students to add images and record audio, reading their poems and sharing their creative process when writing poetry.

Have you ever told anyone, "Let me Google that for you?" That is what LMGTFY is all about! This site allows you to demonstrate how to Google (and much more) terms, then send a link with a step by step demonstration on how to complete the search. LMGTFY has grown beyond Google and now offers users the ability to select from several popular search engines including Bing, Yahoo, Ask, and DuckDuckGo. The drop-down box provides choices to search the web, images, video, and more. After making selections and entering a search term, click to get the link or choose preview to view the information.

Use LMGTFY to teach students how to use search engines effectively. Create links demonstrating searches using different terms and different search engines and have students analyze the results. When students create multimedia presentations of research projects, ask them to include a screen share using Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here, to show their search method using LMGTFY. This site is perfect to use with young students to demonstrate proper search techniques.

ERDPlus is a free and simple diagram maker that includes options for creating several different types of schema models. Create your diagrams with or without free signup. Free accounts offer users the ability to save documents onsite and options to easily share documents with others. Once you begin using the diagram maker, use the dashboard to choose the style of diagram to create or import a document from your computer. Use the tools to add information, connect items, and move information around to suit your needs. When finished, save to your account or your computer.

In the Classroom

Use ERDPlus to create classroom models and diagrams for any subject. Before assigning to all students, choose a few tech-savvy students to learn how to use this site and provide tutoring help for those that need it. Consider having a few students create a video explanation using MySimpleShow, reviewed here, using the provided templates. Create diagrams for students to "map" out a chapter or story. Assign groups to create study guides using this tool. Use this tool for literature activities, research projects, social studies, or science topics. Use this to create family trees or food pyramids in family and consumer science. Have students collaborate (online) to create group mind maps or review charts before tests on a given subject. Have students organize any concepts you study. Have students map out a story, plotline, or plan for the future. Students can also map out a step-by-step process (such as a life cycle or how to solve an equation).

Semantris is a pair of word association games offered as a Google experiment in predicting the use of words by players. Arcade is a quick-thinking game; Write a word associated with the shared selection to drop words to the bottom of a list as quickly as possible. Block is a slower paced game; Try to provide a short phrase to describe one of the words in the blocks to drop the blocks and prevent them from reaching the top of the page.

In the Classroom

Share Semantris with students on classroom computers or devices for use as a quick word association and vocabulary building activity. Challenge students to become more proficient in "beating" Google by earning as many points as possible. For younger students, this site is an excellent way to build vocabulary skills. Have older students take this site a step further and research how machine learning works through this Google activity. Ask them to substitute a traditional report or presentation by making a video explanation tool like Biteable, reviewed here, to describe the concept of machine learning. After spending some time practicing this game, take it a step further and modify student learning by having students create their own vocabulary learning game using a tool such as Scratch, reviewed here.

Do you need some creative writing prompt ideas? Try Emoji Prompts as an excellent way to inspire creativity in you and your students. Start with the provided emoji, then click the "And then..." to add another emoji prompt. Continue adding emojis as long as you like to continue the story.

Students are very familiar with emojis, so this site is an excellent resource to begin any creative writing activity. Use Emoji Prompts as a quick warm up in writing class by displaying the site on your interactive writing board and adding 2 or 3 emojis for students to use to write a short paragraph; for longer projects add more emojis. Have students share their writing with classmates as a peer editing activity. Have students share completed writing activities on Edublog, reviewed here. Ask them to include the emojis used as the basis of the writing piece and reflect on their writing process and revisions made.

Edji is a collaborative classroom reading tool that offers options for you to interact with text. Use this site to share text, then have readers highlight and add written and audio comments to portions of text. Also, use Edji to allow readers to add comments within pictures, even selecting a specific part of an image to share a response. Create your account to start a new reading using your email or Google account. Use security features to make readings public or private and choose from grade level options. Type or paste text and use options to insert images or PDF's. Create a group for sharing, and Edji provides a URL and code for students to access your work. Use the Heat Vision feature to view the finished product with highlights and comments shared by all readers.

Ruff Ruffman is a comical canine who sets out to teach kids (ages 6-11) about being a responsible digital citizen. Short animated video clips answer questions about posting photos, texting, and searching, reminding kids to ask an adult for help with the more difficult undertakings like finding a kid-friendly search engine. This program also has discussion questions for parents and teachers and interactive quizzes. Creating an account isn't required to use any material on the site. To create an account, you will need a username and a random password will be assigned, which can you can change later.

In the Classroom

Introduce Ruff Ruffman with a projector or interactive whiteboard, showing students all of the different questions Ruff will answer. Then either view the video shorts and quizzes as a class, or allow students to view the video shorts and take the interactive quizzes at a computer center. As a substitute for paper and pencil, have students use a video response tool like FlipGrid, reviewed here, to reflect on their learning and share tips for their peers. To extend student learning, require students to view their peer's reflections and make thoughtful comments.

This recording of an OK2Ask online professional learning session from September 2018, opens in Adobe Connect. Develop social media savvy in your students using practice spaces focused on digital citizenship, critical thinking, persuasion and communication skills. Explore online and offline strategies and tools to create safe, authentic learning experiences for students in grades 2-12. These strategies can be applied to any content area. As educators, we can prepare every child to be influential by helping them understand how to leverage the power of social media. While students intuitively understand the mechanics of social media platforms, using them in a responsibly purposeful way to build influence is not instinctual and must be taught and practiced. Participants will recognize the cycle of information gathering, processing, and posting; followed by vetting ideas and voice amplification as both a professional use of social media and an experience that learners should have. Participants will: 1. Learn the importance of responsible social media use by students; 2. Understand the purpose of using social media practice spaces as part of regular instruction; and 3. Explore both paper-based and digital practice spaces that can be used with students. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Engage students and deepen content area knowledge by adding text, audio, and video to images which bring additional context to your instruction. This strategy can be used across content areas and grade levels. Participants will: 1. Learn how to create an interactive drawing; 2. Identify ways in which interactive drawings can be used to support instruction; and 3. Create an interactive drawing that can be used in class. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.
