Tech Tool of the Month

What does your summer look like? Are you busy with picnics, fireworks, pool parties, cookouts, reunions, vacation, hiking, and more? Maybe you are embracing professional learning, preparing for the next school year, and making some appointments that just can’t fit in during the school year. Some of you may already be back in the classroom as you read this blog. Whatever your summer consists of and wherever you are currently at in your summer plans, the tech tool for July can help you stay organized, remember all of the details, and prepare professionally for the next year.

SignUp Genius is certainly not a new tool. However, they are frequently updating and adding more features (even to the FREE version). Take a look at this video to see what is new and exciting with SignUp Genius.

Maybe you are new to SignUp Genius. Let me tell you why we chose this as our tech tool of the month. You can use this tool to organize everything from parent-teacher conferences to class parties to event volunteers to classroom donations/wish lists. This is one that is versatile in both your professional and personal life. Use it personally to plan your family reunion, birthday parties, concession volunteers for sporting events, and more. And of course, profession uses abound! Keep track of staff schedules, plan meetings, prepare for professional learning conferences, and so much more.

The best part of SignUp Genius is the ease of use. The site offers a 1-2-3-4 instruction area and it is true. I tested this out and created my Signup Sheet in about 5 minutes! I can’t say that mine was used for professional use, but we are organized and prepared for the vacation with my in laws next month! I didn’t have to send out a bunch of emails and remind everyone to “reply all.” We are collaborating and sharing on our Signup Genius sheet!

Keep this in your tech toolbox as the new school year approaches. You can organize your classroom volunteers, help your student cooperative groups get organized for projects, or if tech is limited – use this tool for students to sign-up for “tech time” in the computer lab or on laptops or other devices. As you can see, the possibilities are as limited as your imagination. What can you use SignUp Genius for in and out of your classroom?
