This site offers information about the devastating facts of domestic abuse. There is a 12-minute video (requires FLASH), real-life stories by students who have experienced domestic abuse, an interactive quiz and a vast array of information on the subject of domestic abuse. Remember this site was created in the UK, so some of the language may be new to your students. You may need to discuss the noticeable differences.

In the Classroom

Encourage your teenaged students to read the real-life stories about students who experienced domestic abuse, either as a springboard to guidance discussions or for frank one-on-one talk. Discuss with your students, especially those who may be "at-risk," how someone could handle this situation where you live - who do they tell, where do they call and what should they do.

This activity about teeth could be easily adapted for any elementary age classroom. There are three sections to this website. The first, "Information Panels" provides students with information about teeth, decay, cavities and more! The second section, "Teeth Identification Diagram" challenges students to identify all of the teeth on the jaw line. The third section, "Tooth Structure Diagram" is another diagramming activity. This activity asks for the names of specific parts of the tooth, gum and jaw. There is a glossary available for all activities. This site requires FLASH.

In the Classroom

For younger students, be sure to try an interactive whiteboard. This is an excellent lesson for all ages - healthy teeth! This is a definite keeper for Dental Health Month.

Divided into introductions at two levels, K- 5 and 6 - 12, the home pages explain briefly what the CIA does. Sites of interest for children include information about the Canine Corps, a story about pigeons, games and a feature on saying no to drugs. Links from the two levels of homepages do not necessarily go to reading matter of the level; for example, the "Who We Are and What We Do" pages require a sophisticated vocabulary and high reading level (9+). Links from features like "Spy-Fi Archives" display some inconsistency in formatting, but the source is a good general one for older children. An extensive book list on drug awareness and abuse prevention is helpful.

In the Classroom

Include this site when studying the three branches of government as a concrete example of one thing the Executive Branch does. Students could explore it on a "scavenger hunt" to learn answers to questions you pose, or the whole class could visit on a projector to learn about what the CIA does. If you ask students to research different government agancies, this would be a great reference site for them to use.
