This recording of an OK2Ask online professional learning session is from July 2023. You can register and immediately view the archive of the session.

Digital or online reading is different from reading print. Digital reading often includes a research component that isn't linear, so when reading online, students need to clarify their purpose and then evaluate and synthesize information. Come learn about the processes involved in digital reading and explore three tools that will help you teach critical strategies to your students. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Understand skills and processes involved in digital reading; 2. Explore tools that help students find, evaluate, and synthesize what they read; and 3. Plan for digital reading instruction in the classroom. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

tag(s): digital reading (15), professional development (385), reading strategies (96)

The archive of this teacher-friendly, hands-on webinar will empower and inspire you to use learning technology in the classroom and for professional productivity. As appropriate, specific classroom examples and ideas have been shared. View the session with a few of your teaching colleagues to find and share new ideas. GPTZero detects whether a text is generated by an artificial intelligence (AI) product such as ChatGPT. After entering text or uploading a file, GPTZero determines the probability that the document is AI-generated using information applied across several models, including ChatGPT, Bard, and human or human and AI-created works. Visit this site's FAQ section to find suggestions for educators on how to work with students when finding AI-generated text and ideas for reducing the risk of AI abuse by students.

tag(s): artificial intelligence (89), plagiarism (32), writing (314)

In the Classroom

Bookmark and save this site when checking students' written assignments and as a resource for learning about AI-generated text with students. Ask students to include a copy of a response from GPTZero when submitting written assignments to demonstrate that the response is determined to be written by a human, not a chat tool. If your school or district doesn't have a policy regarding using AI generators, work with your students to create a classroom policy of proper use. For example, share how students can use AI generators to clarify information misunderstandings or learn more about a topic before beginning a writing project. Consider using a screen recorder like Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here to create a video sharing examples and ideas on using chat tools and verifying human-created work using GPTZero.

ClassPoint integrates with PowerPoint and Windows operating systems using presentation tools, interactive quiz questions, and a gamified reward system. Use the presentation tools to highlight information, add annotations, open a whiteboard, and more. Turn your slides into interactive questions to share with students and receive immediate feedback through the responses. Use the rewards option to give or take away stars to students based on your preferences; students move through levels to receive badges by earning rewards. Download ClassPoint to your Windows device by following the directions and prompts provided. Free accounts offer up to a twenty-five-student class size, five questions per PowerPoint, three draggable objects, three saved classes, and basic gamification. ClassPoint is not available for MacOS devices at the time of this review; however, it is being looked at as an option, so Mac users might want to check back to see if it becomes available.

Insert polls within your slides to gauge students' understanding of the content or ask them to respond to questions throughout the presentation. Learn how to identify antisemitism, understand what it is, and its societal and community impact with this explainer provided by Facing History. Discover the answers to many questions, including "Is antisemitism racism?" and "Why does antisemitism persist?" through factual information interspersed with personal stories. In addition, this article includes a series of three reflection questions for student discussion. Readers don't need to register for a free account to access this article; however, registered members can save it to their favorites and download the document as a PDF.

Include this article with your other teaching resources when discussing prejudice, the holocaust, and cultural issues. Before beginning your lessons, ask students to respond briefly to what they think when hearing "antisemitism" using a word cloud creation tool such as AnswerGarden, reviewed here. Use this word cloud as a starting point to highlight and recognize ideas associated with the term and their impact on those around us. As you continue to teach about the information in the article, ask students to share personal or recent news stories to highlight the ongoing concerns about antisemitism. Curate and share stories using an organizational tool such as Milanote, reviewed here. Milanote is similar to an online whiteboard that allows you to collaborate and share information, including links, images, notes, and more. Extend learning by asking students to choose one of the reflection questions to discuss or research further, then share their understanding using a multimedia presentation tool. For example, some students may want to create poetry and share their work as a video presentation using Vmaker, reviewed here, while others can create visual story maps with StoryMap JS, reviewed here, which includes maps, images, and links to supporting media.

Before sharing this site with students, discuss how to avoid the many ads on the site and provide directions on downloading and editing slides safely. Consider creating a "how-to" tutorial using a screen recording tool like Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here, to demonstrate how to search, find, and download templates. Another option is to select several appropriate templates for students to use with class projects and share the links within a collection curated in Wakelet, reviewed here. Sharing templates within a Wakelet collection makes it easier for students to find and use templates without navigating advertising.
