Differentiation in Elementary Inclusive Learning Environments
There are basically 3 reasons why you differentiate and 3 reasons how you can differentiate.
Let’s start with the main 3 reasons why:
- Interest – including hobbies, art, music, personal hobbies, and more.
- Learning profile – includes gender, learning style, learning preference, environment, culture, and more.
- Readiness – what are they ready for. This should be fluid, the distance from the goal, and the need for more challenge or remediation.
So HOW can you differentiate? Let’s talk about the 3 ways that Tomlinson identifies.
- Content – Information delivery (videos, leveled reading, podcasts, and more)
- Process – Practice (interactive websites, interest centers, and more)
- Product – Demonstrated Learning (projects, songs, creating using Web 2.0 tools, and more)
