After creating an account, type Teacher's Guide in the search box to find the link for a very complete guide. The guide has information for using Genius in the classroom and creating accounts. Use the information found with literature selections to build Common Core skills analyzing informational texts. Use the site to post and share discussion assignments on specific articles or even parts of articles. Find a relevant article to your subject. Highlight the part that you want students to read. For younger students, keep it short to reduce the intimidating reality of too much information for kids. Attach a note with a discussion question for the students. Use Zearn on a projector or an interactive whiteboard to demonstrate specific concepts or use as weekly math centers for student practice. Zearn provides data to target instruction to specific students or concepts needing additional reinforcement. Since Zearn is a complete math program, with individualized lessons for students to work on, teachers can conduct small group instruction while others work independently. Build student awareness of the limited view provided by some publications, especially during times of international tension. The Los Angeles Unified School District offers resources for math instruction in all grades and correlated to Common Core Standards. Choose from elementary, middle, or high school links to find curriculum maps, lessons, and assessments offered by grade level or high school curriculum topic. Middle and High School links also provide intervention through tutorial labs. Be sure to check out the printable article Opening Strong in a Common Core Classroom that provides many suggestions and strategies for the first ten days of school.

Use this site as an activator, introducing the topic of Mt. Everest, Nepal, or the Himalayas. This website would benefit a Geography class, exploring the significance of the Himalayas while simultaneously studying the geographic forces that made the mountain chain. Modify learning and have students create timelines of a Mount Everest adventure (with music, photos, videos, and more) using Timeline JS, reviewed here. Enhance learning and have students use Fakebook, reviewed here, to create a "fake" page similar in style to Facebook about climbing Mount Everest from the perspective of the climber or a Sherpa guide.
