This site documents three Antarctic scuba diving expeditions with spectacular images of sponges, jellies, sea spiders and much more! Explore the Gallery and Field Guide to view and read about the fascinating creatures that live beneath the ice. Students can find out what it's like to dive in the Antarctic and read journal entries written by the two of the divers. High quality photos are combined with comprehensive written descriptions, but the reading level of the text is fairly advanced, so consider projecting images and providing oral summaries for younger students.

Man may have been flying for only a century, but other vertebrates have been doing it for millions of years! Take a virtual tour of the University of California's Paleontology Vertebrate Flight Exhibit. If you're just introducing the mechanics of flight, embarking on a study of natural history and prehistoric life, or looking for a new approach to an old physics lesson, this site can provide a wealth of information. Each topic of the exhibit can be explored independently or the entire site can be treated as a tutorial, with each section flowing logically to the next. The text requires a fairly high level of reading, but is brief. Links providing further explanation of key terms are found throughout the site.

Here's a site that documents the achievements of female physicians while also providing lesson plans and information that will show students (at all levels) how physicians do their work. The biographies of women physicians - some dating back into the 19th century - are probably the strongest section of this site, but the lesson plans are also well worth a look. This site could be used in history, career planning, science, or women's history studies. The activities come in text or Flash, and all the other information is definately worth your time.

A World History or government class could use this site to compare and contrast the government structure of India to that of the United States. Share the site on the interactive whiteboard or projector and use an online venn diagram to compare what they're reading about India to what they already know about the US. Use an online tool such as Interactive Two Circle Venn Diagram (reviewed here). This would be a great segway into a discussion of the effects of globalization, varying cultures, or even a dialogue on how India came to have the government they do.
