Session Description:
Explore technology-infused strategies to build background knowledge for multilingual learners. Discover practical tools to support comprehension before, during, and after reading. Leave with insights and templates to enhance teaching practices across critical phases of content area reading, incorporating Graphic Organizers, EduProtocols, Multimedia Experiences, and Visual Thinking Routines.
Purpose:
This session will empower educators with practical strategies, tools, and resources that harness technology to enhance the development of background knowledge in multilingual learners. The session will provide participants with research-based strategies and practical tools to build background knowledge for multilingual learners before, during, and after reading. By the end of this session, participants will be equipped to foster a more inclusive and effective learning environment for their diverse students, ultimately bridging the gap in their educational experiences.
Objectives:

- Understand the significance of background knowledge development for multilingual students and its impact on overall comprehension and learning outcomes.
- Identify and use various technology-infused strategies to activate, develop, and extend background knowledge for multilingual learners across different content areas and grade levels.
- Apply and adapt graphic organizers, EduProtocols, multimedia experiences, and visual thinking routines to support multilingual learners’ comprehension before, during, and after reading.
