Get step-by-step help in creating an impressive resume with ResumeCoach. First, choose from an assortment of resumes or let ResumeCoach choose the one best for your chosen profession. Next, select a template and get advice on appropriate and professional wording to include. After selecting a template, fill in the information to include following the provided steps. When finished, download your resume or share it online using Google or directly to LinkedIn. Registration isn't necessary unless you share your resume online.

In the Classroom
Aside from the obvious use of creating a resume for a job application, this site offers an excellent resource for students to learn about the process of job hunting and the requirements for obtaining a career in any field. Ask students to complete a personal resume as a way for them to highlight their individual skills. Have students complete a resume for their "dream" job that focuses on the unique skills that make them the best candidate. Have students create a resume for a fictional or real character in history. For example, create a resume for a past president that includes a list of his accomplishments while in office. Have students include these resumes as part of a research project and include them using tools found at Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, reviewed here.

Alison is a free learning platform offering courses for education and skills training provided by the world's leading experts. Find courses using the dropdown boxes at the top of the site sorted by Course Categories, Course Types, and Courses for Jobs. Browse the home page to find the most popular courses and most recent offerings. Complete the free registration to begin. Upon selecting a class, view information on the number of modules, topics, and approximate length. Upon completion, Alison provides a certificate or diploma, depending on the duration of the offerings.

GCF Learn Free offers a large selection of topics, lessons, videos, and more designed to offer training in essential skills needed to live and work in the 21st century. Registration isn't required; however, it allows you to save progress within courses. Topics range from technology basics, software training, career planning, and much more. Learn Free also has links to information for educators, including Teachers Guides and Resources and Tools.

In the Classroom
Take advantage of these free courses to brush up your computer and technology skills. Share links to specific tutorials with students for use with classroom projects. For example, share the Google Docs course with students to help them learn how to use and manage Google Drive, documents, and complete basic tasks. Be sure to share tips with parents too for their personal use. Consider sharing a section of a course each week on your website for students to learn about various tools in bite-sized pieces. For a more immersive learning experience, use Blendspace, reviewed here, to create a learning path for students that includes information from this site along with YouTube videos, quizzes, and links to other learning resources. Extend student learning further by asking them to create their tutorials based on class needs. Share this site with students as part of career exploration lessons. Instead of creating a list of sites to share with students, replace the list by saving bookmarks with Symbaloo, reviewed here, to make information easy to find and access. After researching the different engineering fields ask students to extend their learning and create a web page sharing a day in the life of their chosen field. Learn literacy and leadership skills through gameplay with Read to Lead's virtual workplace games. The twenty-nine games offer literacy practice as students participate as the leader of virtual workplaces such as newspapers, community centers, or wellness clinics. Browse and find games by grade level, reading skill practice, Lexile level, career type, and social-emotional learning competency. Each game also includes many educator resources, including mini-lessons, assessments, and further discussion questions. Easily set up your class after creating your account to create usernames and passwords or upload your class roster directly into your account. Performance, Progress, and Student Activity Reports provide individual and class feedback on student activity and progress within the games.

In the Classroom
Use information within the site to choose games for students based on reading levels or topics of interest. Instead of traditional reading homework assignments, assign one of these high-interest games to play. This site is also excellent for use with ENL/ESL students; use the icons in the game to translate speech into over 100 languages. Be sure to check out the many free included items with each game such as pacing guides and challenge activities. After playing the games, use the included ideas to support your career research and planning activities. Have students use a photo collage creation tool like PhotoCollage, reviewed here, to extend their learning and visualize different aspects of any career. Take it a step further and have students modify their learning by creating a webpage featuring "a day in the life" of their career choice. Carrd, reviewed here, is an easy to use webpage creator. Replace the traditional final report with a project to redefine learning by challenging students to use a multimedia tool like Canva Infographic Maker, reviewed here, to share information about their chosen career using information from their research and based on information presented within the games found on Read to Lead.

Each option provides a series of lessons teaching skills like collaboration and problem-solving along with rubrics for assessment of projects.

Roadtrip Nation inspires young people to find their path in life by sharing how others found their life passion. PBS shares this journey through the eyes of participants as they interview leaders from many different career paths. Use links to watch many seasons of the series, or choose the Roadtrips option to view interviews by locations. Explore the various trips by interest, themes, or music. High school students have the opportunity to participate in road trips by applying through the Roadtrip Nation website.
In the Classroom
Include Roadtrip Nation as part of your career exploration activities. Have cooperative learning groups create podcasts sharing information about their chosen career field. Encourage students to interview someone in that field either in person or online. ChatterHigh is a tool designed for high school students to investigate and discover career and college opportunities. Each day students participate in a 10 minute quiz activity with links to learning about different career programs. Students earn points through quiz answers to enter prize drawings.
In the Classroom
Include ChatterHigh as part of any career exploration opportunity for students. This site was created in Canada, so many quizzes relate to Canadian sites; however, the information may be useful for many career searches. Use the information found on quizzes as the basis for students creating their own questions for career and college searches. After researching information, have students make a multimedia presentation to discuss with their peers what they discovered about a career path they may want to take. Replace traditional presentations by using Slides, reviewed here, if you are starting the process of integrating technology into your classroom. Slides is an easy tool to manage if you are familiar with PowerPoint or Keynote. The ASVAB Test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is designed to be taken by incoming members of the military to determine aptitude for different areas of the service. This site provides questions emulating the test for anyone to take to help identify areas of interest and likely successful career choices. Take any or all portions online using the site, including science, math, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and mechanical options. In addition to practice tests, this site provides information about ASVAB testing, videos, and history. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

Share with students to take as practice for upcoming ASVAB testing at your school. ASVAB testing isn't just for students interested in a military career. This site offers an interactive look at three broad career fields: health care, the performing arts, and television production. Each field has activities, profiles of real people who work in the field, and an overview of the work environment. While it's certainly not a comprehensive career guidance site, it's engaging and will help students understand the possibilities for jobs within these fields.
In the Classroom
Offer this site as part of your career guidance resources. Students can explore on their own, or they might work in teams to present a summary of each job field for their classmates. Set up as part of a learning center. "What do you want to do for a living?" is the springboard for this career and guidance site from the US Department of Labor. Choose from three options depending on how sharply focused your career goals are. Consider job titles, explore general career groups, or take an interest inventory to help guide you. Each job title links to a fuller description: the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed for the job, the education required, the job prospects in that career and the personality traits that are linked to success in the career. Job titles are also categorized by whether the long term prospects for growth in that category are strong, whether the career is part of the "green economy" and whether there are internships or job training programs associated with that career.

Ask students to complete the interest inventory independently to get insight and ideas about possible careers. Then use the examples from students' results to explore representative industries or job titles. Help students appreciate that career planning is an ongoing process that includes education, aptitudes, and personality in order to find a "good fit." My Next Move is a great resource for helping students get more concrete information and insight into the sometimes vexing question of "what I want to do when I grow up." icould.com is a career exploration website, built with the look and feel of a social networking site. The interface is modern and will appeal to students who appreciate a multi-media approach to learning things. There is a database of videos about various careers, a career survey (which requires registration and login to get the results), and a whole collection of stories about career exploration. You can also access podcasts about careers here, and post comments and read others' posts.
While the site may be useful as one of several career exploration sites out there, be aware that there are social networking aspects which involve user-generated posts and content; preview carefully before deciding whether to bookmark this site or recommend it to students.

This one is a great resource for researching colleges, trade schools, and career opportunities. This site has helpful information for guiding students along a variety of paths upon graduation. The career planning resources help students assess their likes and dislikes to identify how those preferences can translate into successful careers. The site also has helpful information on what certifications and qualifications different jobs require.

Have students identify a possible career for their own future and create a class Padlet, reviewed here, or a wiki displaying the many career choices of your students. Not familiar with wikis?
