In the Classroom
Share this site on the interactive whiteboard or projector to introduce a unit or lesson on the physics of throwing machines. Use this site to provide a historic example of their many uses. Teachers can focus simply on the history of mechanics of the machinery OR can have students attempt to create their own based on the directions and resources provided. This would be a great resource for either a History or Physics classroom.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Skateboard Science - The Exploratorium
Grades
6 to 12In the Classroom
Share this site with students who like to skateboard to extend their knowledge about the dynamics of how the tricks work (and learn to relate force and motion in real life). Ask these students to share what they learned about their favorite trick with their peers by creating an annotated, narrated image (including text boxes and related links) using a tool such as Google Drawings, reviewed here. Google Drawings allows you to annotate an image with links to videos, text, websites, and more. Not familiar with Google Drawings? Watch an archived OK2Ask session to learn how to use: OK2Ask Google Drawings, here. The subject matter should make the hard work fun as it is all about the physics of the skateboarder and his board!Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Astrophysics Lesson Plans - NASA
Grades
6 to 12In the Classroom
Take advantage of these free lesson plans for any unit on astrophysics. Search the site to find the appropriate lesson tools and bring them up on an interactive whiteboard or projector. A lot of the activities can be used for a class activity, or you could also break students up into cooperative learning groups and have them complete them separately. Make sure to post this site on your teacher web page to allow students to access it both in and out of the classroom for review. Challenge small groups of students to create and interactive infographic using a tool such as Visme, about what they are learning and what they are still questioning. Challenge cooperative learning groups create podcasts demonstrating their understanding of one of the concepts. Use a tool such as Buzzsprout.Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member

Share the site on an interactive whiteboard or projector, and use it as a springboard for an ethics discussion during science class. Though there are a wide array of articles, some capture and illustrate arguments over the debate of stem cell research, Pluto's classification, and climate change. At the end of a unit, open one of these articles and use the real-world information provided to spark a classroom debate. Students can use the knowledge they have gained, in addition to seeing its practical application. This is a very useful site for science enrichment!Add your comments below (available only to members) | Become a Member
