Dig into the meaning of computational thinking with this collection of resources. Computational thinking is expressing solutions so that humans and computers can understand them. A great way to visualize how to embed it in your classroom is to have the students think like the physicist, economist, artist, mathematician, etc. to identify the problems that need to be explored. This is not programming computers but logical ways for problem-solving. It is a problem-solving tool for every classroom that has students think like a problem solver and use higher level cognitive skills.

Use the search bar and the drop-down box to search by name and type of file. Registration isn't required; however, it allows you to save favorites and track downloaded files. As with all image sites, use caution when using with younger students. It is always suggested to preview your search results.

In the Classroom
Before using, share this site with students on an interactive whiteboard or with a projector and demonstrate how to save files. Ads by images can be deceiving and lead to other download sites, not to the download of your requested file.Use Stockio in the classroom any time images are needed for projects, even if the project is not put on a website for others to see. Even though the site says "no attribution required," it is a good idea to have students acknowledge, or as the site says "appreciate," the origin of the image; this will help to get them into the habit of citing their sources. Student groups can use Stockio to find the best image to use for a project collectively. Challenge students to create personalized images (with text) using PicFont, reviewed here. Teachers can collect images for use on their interactive whiteboard for sorting activities (monocots and dicots, producers and consumers, etc.). Use images as a writing prompt or in poetry collections. Art teachers can find images for students to use as references or in photo-montages (with attribution or "appreciation" as they say on the site). For an easy online photo editor and montage maker, try using Pixlr, reviewed here. Elementary teachers can use images from this site as part of student-run interactive whiteboard activities, such as labeling parts of plants. Speech and language or ESL/ELL teachers can find images to use in vocabulary development activities. World language teachers can find cultural photos to use in oral exercises.

Find out the local time and temperature in countries as you study them and compare their local time to yours. Include time/date conversions for online conferences you will hold with parents who are deployed or traveling in different time zones. Share meeting dates/times for virtual sessions using the time conversions, so everyone is "on time." In the Classroom
Bookmark this site to view individual episodes together as a class, or use in centers for students to view videos on classroom computers. When using for centers use a site such as MoocNote, reviewed here, to insert comments and questions into any of the videos as part of the student viewing process. Instead of written responses about what they learned or questions they may still have, instruct students share their responses and discussion through video using Flip, reviewed here. NEXT.cc shares activities and online information to develop ethical imagination and environmental stewardship through design. The information is based on Common Core and Wisconsin Art and Design Standards. Begin your journey by choosing from one of the many icons. Each journey includes a short description of the content and links to several activities featuring games, research projects, or discussion questions. When finished, take a short review quiz or select from the many links providing additional opportunities to explore each topic. Videos reside on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

Include this site as part of your bookmarks for lessons in design, science, or art using a bookmarking tool like Symbaloo, reviewed here. Have students create an annotated image including text boxes and related links using a tool such as Image Annotator, reviewed here, to demonstrate their understanding of a concept. Students will love seeing the wide variety of visitors to their classroom website. Have a student share locations of viewers with other students, then research to learn more about those areas around the world. Ask students to create an annotated image of any location including text boxes and related links using a tool such as Image Annotator, reviewed here.
