Humans respond to and process visual data better than any other type of data. Whether students are learning to collect, organize, graph, or interpret data, this webinar offers proven tools and strategies that assist learners in developing and applying those skills. Together we will explore and plan for the use of forms to collect data, web resources to access data, spreadsheets to manipulate and graph data, and Google MyMaps to visualize data. Students from beginner to advanced can use these tools to visualize and connect math, science, and social studies concepts to concrete, real-world applications. Let's get students excited about learning and help them incorporate complex data literacy into their world view. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels. Create and share QR codes from any device using the free resources from QRickit QR Codes. Use the dropdown box to select the type of code you wish to create from the many available options, including links to websites, playing a YouTube video, viewing a Google Map location, and more. Fill in the blanks to add relevant information then choose QCreate to view and download the QR Code image. When finished, QRickit provides an option for embedding the code into a flyer, select this option to personalize and create your flyer that is ready to print and use.

Create a QR code that directs to your class website or blog. Include it on handouts for Back to School night. Create a QR code scavenger hunt for students or make a webquest more engaging. Add QR codes to documents for students to check their answers. Further, develop knowledge of a topic by adding a QR code to a site that expands upon what is in the textbook. Create a data chart accessible via a QR code. Students can access the data and manipulate the information. Have students create a book trailer or review and affix a QR code to the outside of the book. Students may be more apt to read a book that has been reviewed by another student. Make a display completely interactive with a QR code that describes the assignment, the process, the research, students' reactions, and more! Add extra help information to any assignment that asks students to solve problems. Create an online help tutorial accessible via a QR code, and place the code beside a similar problem. Link a QR code directly to a Google Map. Place QR code contact information for you and your school on contact cards to give to parents. Attach QR codes to physical objects around the room to provide information about the object. Instead of copying/pasting links in a newsletter, put them into QR codes for easier access by readers. Post QR codes to resource sites and new articles on your BYOD classroom bulletin boards for students to access information on their tablets or smartphones. Are you having trouble finding Blues sites with the music? Listen to handpicked classic, popular Blues sounds of the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s on this YouTube playlist. You'll find Leadbelly, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe Venuti, Bessie Smith and many, many more. The music is crystal clear with none of the scratchy sounds you hear with many old songs that were recorded from old technology. If your district blocks YouTube, you may not be able to enjoy this music.

Play musical selections for students to talk about musical elements and styles in music class. Scroll down the page to find links to other Past Perfect sites, or use the search bar and type in Past Perfect Vintage Music to get only that selection. Have partners explore the sites to find examples of different rhythms or styles they prefer. Enhance learning by having a class Padlet, reviewed here, where students share their favorites and listen to others' favorites. In social studies or history classes, use this Perfect Blues music as an introduction to any unit of study from the 1920s - 1950s in your classroom. Share with students for use in multimedia presentations (with proper attribution, of course). Try sharing this resource with students when they are creating podcasts, slideshows, and other media projects. SceneVR is a virtual reality editor that turns panoramic images into a slideshow. Use the editor to upload panoramic photos from a camera or panoramic scenes from phones. To create your slideshow, log in using your Google account to open SceneVr Creator and follow prompts to upload images. After editing your project, publish using the links to share online, embed it into a website, or share it on social media. Be sure to check out the site's tips for creating projects.
In the Classroom
Use SceneVR to take slide presentations to a whole new level. Quickly upload panoramic photos from class field trips, science experiments, or presentations to create a unique presentation to share with parents and families on your website. Ask students to use their photos to create a virtual reality presentation. For example, when learning about geometric shapes, have students take panoramic images of your classroom and school. Put these images into SceneVR to create a presentation and allow students to explore your "virtual world" for shapes found around them. Extend learning further by incorporating the slideshows into a multimedia presentation such as a digital book made with Book Creator, reviewed here, or Sway, reviewed here. Introduce your students to Kwanzaa by taking the quiz to see how much they know about Kwanzaa. Then in pairs or small groups, have students research the terms. As students research, substitute paper and pen journals by asking younger students to create a blog using a tool like Penzu, reviewed here to share what they are learning with fellow students. A great blogging tool for older students is Telegra.ph, reviewed here. With Telegra.ph have students click on an icon to upload related images, add YouTube or Vimeo links. YouTube is a video hosting platform for viewing and sharing videos with over one billion users around the world. Content ranges across all subjects and interests. Use YouTube's search feature to locate videos for any content and age ranges. You are also able to upload your own videos. After uploading videos, YouTube offers basic editing tools to remove portions of your video, add music, and add end screens. Use the share option to share the link to your video using social media or obtain the embed code to include on a website or blog. Be sure to check on your school's policy and use of filters before using YouTube in the classroom.

YouTube provides opportunities for a variety of classroom uses. Create your own YouTube channel to provide instructional videos for your students. Make a playlist of videos that support your teaching and allow students to learn from different viewpoints. With proper permissions, have students create videos sharing their learning and understanding of concepts and share them on your class webpage. Flip learning by having students watch videos at home to provide context before classroom lessons. Are there too many ads and distractions on YouTube videos? Use VideoLink - Safe YouTube, reviewed here, and generate an ad-free version of the video. Use YouTube videos to create an interactive learning experience instead of passive learning by using a site such as Edpuzzle, reviewed here, to modify any video to your lesson. Add questions, clip out unneeded portions of the video, and add comments and information by adding a recording in your voice. The collection includes complete courses, textbooks, mini-lessons, and simulations, as well as lesson plans, workbooks, collections for Project based and Problem Based Learning, and more. In addition to the content on the site, OER Commons also includes features for building interactive lessons and modules and media documents. Registration isn't required; however, free signup on the website provides you the option to save materials, create and collaborate with groups, and align resources to standards.

Bookmark OER Commons to use as your first stop in lesson planning. Take advantage of the search filters to narrow down the content and grade-level information to suit your needs. This website is also an excellent resource for finding materials to differentiate instruction. Use higher-level activities to challenge gifted students, and search for content to use for remediation. As you gather resources into a collection or lesson plans, be sure to think about ways to incorporate technology in meaningful ways to enhance and extend learning.

BBC Bitesize is an educational support site designed for students in the United Kingdom. Although much of the material is labeled based on United Kingdom grade definitions, the site is very easy to use for students in any location. Begin by selecting from three main grade bands - primary, secondary, and post-16. Within each grade band, narrow down choices even further by age. If looking for a specific content area, scroll down to almost the bottom of the home page to select "view all subjects." Content includes quizzes, videos, articles, learning guides, and more. Registration isn't required, but it allows you to save items as favorites.

Bookmark and save this site to take advantage of the many resources on this site to supplement classroom instruction in any topic. If you teach history, use Bitesize to provide information to students from the British perspective. Add links to games or quizzes on your classroom website for students to practice at home. Use Padlet, reviewed here, to organize and share resources with students. Organize games and online activities into columns based on different topics to make information easy to find. Have students compare and contrast British terms and units of measurement with your system of measurement and common phrases. Use a Venn Diagram creator like the one found at Class Tools, reviewed here, to show comparisons with the British examples. If working with older students, enhance learning by using Fiskkit, reviewed here, as a tool for collaborative discussions of the articles found on Bitesize. Do you need to make random selections of names, items, places, or other items? This tool is for you! Customize the slices on the wheel to include names and/or images. Because Google hosts this wheel, it allows you to save customized wheels onto Google Drive for easy access anywhere. Another handy option offers you the ability to import names from a spreadsheet. Although the Wheel of Names allows you to add as many names as you like, the maximum number of names showing at any time will be 48. If there are more, the names change each second until starting to spin the wheel.

In the Classroom
Use the Wheel of Names to randomly call students during class discussions. Add images instead of names to make the wheel more interesting. In addition to the obvious use for calling names, use this random wheel in a variety of different ways. Add dates onto the wheel when reviewing events in history, review vocabulary, instead of student names add character names from novels for students to discuss, add books to determine the next read-aloud, the list goes on and on! Classkick is a classroom learning management system that offers several tools for guiding instruction from lesson planning through assessment. Create or customize lessons using your own resources or combine with content available on the site's library. Deliver lessons to students for use on any device and monitor progress in real-time. Classkick includes a private chat for students to ask for help privately and also contains options for peer to peer feedback. This site also includes a number of video tutorials and resources for implementing the tool in classrooms and a variety of ideas on how to use it.

In the Classroom
Use Classkick in class, for blended learning or remote learning since you can see all students working from anywhere. Use Classkick to differentiate instruction based on students' current performance. Many students are motivated to learn at their own pace using online tools, and Classkick is an option providing lessons in a different format than currently available. If not using Classkick whole - class, it provides many options for helping and enhancing learning for individual students, use for homework, or as a temporary option for providing instruction to home-bound or remote learning students. As students learn through this type of management system, ask them to use a portfolio tool such as Majara, reviewed here, to document and reflect upon their learning process.

Share a link to this site on your class webpage for parents to share with their children. Include this game on classroom computers for use during computer center time. Instead of creating separate links for different games, use a bookmarking tool like Symbaloo, reviewed here, to organize and share games easily. Symbaloo is perfect for use with younger students because it includes icons for links, which makes it easy to organize content by topic and easy for non-readers to find links. Ask students to brainstorm a list of words they see and hear in advertisements, then use those words to create a word cloud using Wordsift, reviewed here, to point out and discuss common words used to entice children. Extend learning for older students by asking them to to create their own advertisement for their favorite cereal or toy using a comic creation tool like ToonyTool, reviewed here.
